Bio

Dr. Shu Schiller serves as Interim Dean for the newly formed College of Graduate Programs and Honors Studies and holds an academic appointment as a tenured Professor of Information Systems in the Raj Soin College of Business. She has extensive experience in higher education,spanning almost 20 years. Dr. Schiller has served in various administrative roles, including associate dean, department chair, and program director.

As Interim Dean, Dr. Schiller leads and supports a program portfolio of 160 graduate programs and oversees the University Honors Program, serving over 3,000 students. She is passionate about building and growing a strong community and championing innovative, interdisciplinary education and research development. Since 2022, Dr. Schiller has established the first Graduate and Honors Student Advisory Board, grown graduate student funding, established leadership in building the Honors Live-Learning Community (LLC), and partnered with the faculty senate to advance policies and processes to promote innovation in graduate and Honors programs.

As Associate Dean of the Raj Soin College of Business, Dr. Schiller successfully led the college’s AACSB reaccreditation in 2021 amid the COVID-19 pandemic. To advance workforce development, she established the first Government and Defense Advisory Board (GDAB) in the College and recruited prominent leaders from the defense and private communities. As a leader in building and growing interdisciplinary collaborations, Dr. Schiller led the design and construction of the Data Analytics & Visualization Environment (DAVE) Lab and created campus-wide collaborations to advance teaching and research in business analytics. As department chair, Dr. Schiller led the successful ABET reaccreditation of the Management Information System program in 2018.

Dr. Schiller achieved many notable collaborations with companies and organizations in the greater Dayton region. She served on the Executive Board of Technology First, a non-profit organization for IT professionals. She established the first Corporate Advisory Board of the department. Nationally, Dr. Schiller served on the National Contract Management Association (NCMA)’s Board of Advisors and the Council of the Association for Information Systems (AIS).

In both academics and practice, Dr. Schiller is recognized for her achievements in communicating data insights.  At the inaugural TEDxDayton in 2013, she gave a talk about storytelling with data.  From 2013 to 2014, Dr.Schiller spent one year of professional development at Teradata Corp., working with experts on big data analytics. She believes meaningful data must be articulated in powerful, compelling stories. Dr. Schiller has published many scholarly articles in academic journals and regularly presents at conferences.

Dr. Schiller holds a Ph.D. in Business Administration, Management Information Systems from the Fox School of Business at Temple University.
