Dr. Shu Schiller’s research focuses on the possibilities to improve and advance communication and collaboration in today’s highly networked society. Her research activities can be organized into a few themes: collaborations in the digital domain, digital media, data analytics and visualization, and IT in practice and learning. While some of her research favors positivist quantitative methods, her current research effort pays significant attention to mixed-methods and qualitative research approaches. Dr. Schiller is especially fond of activity theory and phenomenology, which have equipped her with new capabilities to understand the many interwoven pieces in our society. She believes that scholarly work should improve our insights and provide meaningful and relevant suggestions for actions that can change our lives and our world.
